Homer Simpson is one of the most iconic TV dads of the 20th century, if not all time. His buffoonish antics have delighted audiences around the globe for decades. But do you know the name of the man who employs him?

It’s none other than C. Montgomery Burns. That’s right: Mr. Burns, the wealthy owner of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. Surprised? Homer works at the plant as a safety inspector which therefore makes Mr. Burns his boss. Mr. Burns gives him money in exchange for his labor, which Homer uses to feed his family, the Simpsons.

According to Wikipedia, “Mr. Burns spends his time in his office at the nuclear plant, monitoring his workers via closed-circuit cameras planted throughout the plant.” He says “excellent” a lot and frequently orders his assistant Smithers to “release the hounds.” He is also extremely old.

In some episodes you can actually see Homer interacting with Mr. Burns. Usually, Homer is afraid of Mr. Burns, who has the power to fire him. Other times, the two men appear to be friends. What is it like to be friends with Mr. Burns? One can only wonder, in dreams.

Other famous bosses in pop culture include the Pointy-Haired Boss from Dilbert, Michael Scott from The Office, and Mr. Slate from The Flintstones.
